Columbia College on Thursday introduced some college students who occupied a campus constructing final spring throughout anti-Israel protests would face a spread of punishments, together with expulsions and suspensions.
The announcement got here because the Ivy League establishment finds itself embroiled in controversy over the arrest of a scholar and the rescinding of greater than $400 million in federal grants to the college by the Trump administration due to its “inaction within the face of persistent harassment of Jewish college students.”
The punishments, which embrace “multi-year suspensions, momentary diploma revocations, and expulsions associated to the occupation of Hamilton Corridor final spring,” had been issued by the Columbia College Judicial Board.

“With respect to different occasions going down final spring, the UJB’s determinations acknowledged beforehand imposed disciplinary motion,” the college stated in an announcement. “The return of suspended college students will likely be overseen by Columbia’s College Life Workplace.”
